DESCRIPTION:The May 2026 theme is “Maps\, Map-Making for Meteorite Hunt” — one-time only!\n\nThe meteorite hunt and map-making class for everyone is HERE for the month of MAY!\n\nAge (5-8) May 7th: 1:00pm & 4:30pm\n\nAge (9-12) May 14th: 1:00pm 4:30pm\n\nField Trip May 16th: 9:00am Cypress Tx (exact location to be listed here when finalized)\n\nThis class includes a compass\, maps\, clipboard\, and the 45 minute training session for the individual. Adults attending field trip should pay the $25 fee if they would like to join in on the skills learning and also get equipment for themselves! If you know you and your kiddo will do the field trip\, we recommend you signup for this class also then its free for both of you on field trip day! If you find a meteorite\, its YOURS to keep!!!! feel free to bring a metal detector (digging is absolutely not allowed in the park) and if you have a strong magnet on a stick\, bring that also. it will be a huge advantage!\n\nDuring this training session\, everyone will learn how to use a compass and link direction to a map. Each person will also learn to measure distance while walking. We will demonstrate a baseline and show everyone how walking a grid works. These skills will be critical for the meteorite field trip.\n\nRSVP to any May class\, or just the fieldtrip by texting 832-437-4733 or buying your tickets on our website HERE.\nclasses can be added any day this month if your group or Homeschool coop has at least 10 people.\nPlease pay for your group before the event here.\nInclude the names\, ages\, class date\, and time of the class in the payment notes.\nSeats are limited\, so book early!\nif there are too few entries\, classes will be consolidated\nDiscounts for Groups\n\nShare with your COOP\, friends\, or Facebook groups to receive discounts:\n\n1 kid = $25\n2–5 kids = $23 each\n6–10 kids = $22 each\n11–15 kids = $21 each\n16–25 kids = $20 each\nPrivate homeschool classes are available with 10+ participants. These can be scheduled on any weekday or time.\n\nCOOP & Field Trip Options 🌍\n\nWe currently offer three Earth Science classes for COOPs and private group field trips:\n\n1. The Rock Cycle (1st Thursday)\n\nStudents will:\n\nUse magnifying glasses to observe rock grains and textures.\nRelate observations to the three major rock groups.\nPractice critical skills: gravity\, buoyancy\, observation\, deductive reasoning\, and identification of igneous\, metamorphic\, and sedimentary rocks.\n2. Hardness Testing with Moh’s Scale (2nd Thursday)\n\nStudents will:\n\nLearn Moh’s Hardness and Streak testing.\nSafely test rocks at home or in the field.\nPractice skills: rock vs. mineral\, atoms\, bonds\, density\, hardness\, streak\, observation\, and deductive reasoning.\nReview the rock cycle\, gravity\, buoyancy\, atoms\, bonds\, and density to understand hardness.\n3. Fossils & Lithification (3rd Thursday)\n\nStudents will:\n\nExplore fossil types (molds\, casts).\nLearn how layers deposit in rivers/oceans and how fossils are preserved through lithification and cementation.\nRun three experiments:\nCreate fossil molds.\nObserve sedimentary layer stratification through particle settling velocity.\nWatch mineral crystallization sped up for easy observation.\nMine for fossils using the sluice!\n👉 We recommend starting with The Rock Cycle\, since those skills are used in later classes.
